Why Jesus had to die?

But why Jesus had to die? Why did He chose a so extreme and bloody way to reconcile the world?

"The Passion of the Christ reveals a God in love. Eternity, God decided to answer our fundamental question about evil in us proposing another mystery even more outrageous: the mystery of Jesus crucified, "stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles" (1 Cor 1.13). It is indeed shameful for a Jew that if Jesus is the Messiah, he has been nailed to a cross, and it is unreasonable for a Greek, if Jesus is God, he could have left his start happiness! Unless God is indeed mad, mad as can be a lover who does not know what means employed to convey to his beloved how much he loves her.

And that is the focus of the preaching of the Gospel: God wanted to use human suffering to show us how far he loved us. As a good connoisseur of human psychology, God knew that men think hard to love those who do not sacrifice for them.

So he invented a way unheard of us prove his love. He gave up his divine privileges, he became a man "like everybody else" and he eventually let himself tortured by his brothers. But just when the men tortured, He forgives. He is as happy to have this opportunity to show them that his love is unconditional. [...]

When Pilate presents Jesus to the crowd already bloodied by flogging and he yells "Behold the Man" (Ecce Homo), it would have been shouting "Here is God! It was on Friday that Jesus has revealed to men the better-even through his suffering is what God's heart. (Pierre Descouvemont, Guide difficulties of the Catholic faith ). "
