The Blog of Pastor Fontenay-le-Comte No. 1041: The "journey" of Jesus in Egypt The Blog of Pastor
Methinks that we keep in mind the less luxurious trips to Egypt, ancient or recent, of two Frenchmen, from right to left (guess which) and other MMA that the passage of Jesus in this country. In 2 / 14, the evangelist Matthew tells us that in Egypt, Jesus "until the death of Herod," who wanted to destroy him.
Whatever the historical status of this text, it symbolizes two things: first, that Jesus had not come for the people of Israel, thereby initiating an opening to the nations, and secondly, that 'he wanted solidarity of his people, assuming the story of his trials, Egypt being the starting point of the Exodus, the path of liberation of the Hebrews to the Promised Land.
Today, it is the Egyptians who are oppressed and fighting against a pharaoh they suck blood for decades! I received an email yesterday in Cairo, from a South Vendee faithful reader of this blog. As I explained, while a journalist from us had wanted to interview him, "I could respond to his request because, as an employee depends on the Embassy, we were clearly that he had to limit this type of approach. " But we can guess a bit what they can live! I told him we were wearing that country to our attention and prayer!
Jesus in all this? You probably know that this passage about Jesus in Egypt, many apocryphal texts, written up the late Middle Ages, have generated a multitude of images and devotional practices. Thus, the alleged scene of the route of the Holy Family in Egypt, we have imagined all sorts of miraculous scenes in order to highlight the work of Jesus the Saviour in this country. It is true that the secularization of Western culture has made us less familiar with this episode of sacred history. This is however not free of current issues. Thus, for the Copts, the development of places of passage of the Holy Family in Egypt contributes even today, historians say, this "sacred space" that allows them to reaffirm their presence in a predominantly Muslim society. While for the Egyptian state, develop the roads along the Nile Bible is a means to develop religious tourism.
And if Jesus had remained in Egypt? And if he were still present in the heart of this people as a force of brotherhood and liberation? Why not?
